Glenwood Springs

The last weekend in June Joe had to go to Glenwood Springs for a work conference, so I packed up my Bar review materials and we took a little trip. Glenwood Springs is about three hours west of our house, 40 minutes North of Aspen and 45 minutes west of Vail. It is absolutely beautiful - there are real hot springs in town that have been made into a public pool and vapor rooms (which are natural giant public steam rooms). The town is cute, and there is a great hiking area just east of town. At the end of the hike is Hanging Lake, but we didn't make it to the top as I had problems with the hike - altitude adjustment was really taking it's toll! We'll definitely have to go back when we're adjusted and I'm a little better prepared to hike. I definitely want to see Hanging Lake as it is supposed to be absolutely spectacular!

There are little waterfalls like this all over the state. Not the best picture of me. Notice that I was apparently unaware that we would be hiking. Yes folks, I am hiking in a skirt (and sandles, although you can't see them).

Joe was a little more prepared, however...and took a pretty good picture.
We saw this "little guy" and thought he was pretty neat - that is until we got home and my dad said it was a little rattle snake. Then he wasn't so cool anymore.

Whew...this is a picture of pure relief. It was our first hiking experience and for not living here for a month yet (well, Joe had but I hadn't) we did well. They say it takes at least six months to adjust to the altitude, so we did pretty good!
