So we thought it would be a good time to visit Pike's Peak - in the summer - but unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate with us. As the sign says, it's over 14,000 feet here, so the weather is much harder to predict. Who would have thought we'd get sleet in August?! We spent a lot of time in the little shop there with hot drinks, but Joe did manage to take a few pictures.
America the Beautiful was written in 1893 when Katharine Lee Bates visited Pikes Peak. She was apparently inspired by the breathtaking views. This monument commemorates that event.
